IT System Administrator

This full-time, onsite role is critical for ensuring the robustness, business continuity, and reliability of our IT infrastructure and Software Systems. Reporting directly to the Director of Software Development, you will be instrumental in maintaining our systems, enhancing our documentation, providing essential IT support, and managing our relationships with key technology partners, all while championing our information and cybersecurity posture.

This is an important and challenging position, located in Brockville, Ontario (40 minutes from Kingston, 1 hour from Ottawa, 90 minutes from the West Island of Montreal).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As our IT Network and System Administrator, you will takecomprehensive ownership of our IT environment. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Network, Server & Database Management: You will own and efficiently manage the monitoring, maintenance, optimization and support of our networks, servers, and databases. This includes establishing and maintaining comprehensive inventories and profiles for all equipment and devices.
  • Infrastructure Assessment & Documentation: You will assess our current network and operating environment for overall robustness, security and reliability, creating and updating detailed documentation as needed. You will also review and update existing IT and procedural documentation, identifying gaps and recommending improvements.
  • Software Application Supervision: You will be responsible for the monitoring, maintenance, and support of our critical software applications. This also involves documenting and maintaining an inventory of all server applications, databases, and their associated licenses.
  • Third-Party Software and Vendor Management: You will actively manage the lifecycle of our third-party software, including licensing, updates, and troubleshooting. This extends to vendor management, where you will communicate with and manage relationships with external technology vendors, ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met and issues are resolved efficiently.
  • Systematic Maintenance: You will review our current maintenance and support task lists and guide the implementation of systematic task scheduling, utilizing our DevOps Ticketing System or Microsoft Outlook Calendar.
  • Proactive Monitoring: You will review configurations and reporting procedures on our monitoring system for networks, PCs, servers, and other devices. You will provide recommendations for improvements and help establish a clear handover procedure for monitoring tasks to a backup/alternate.
  • PC & Peripheral Support: You will monitor, maintain, and support all PCs, printers, and peripheral devices. A special focus will be placed on instituting a regularized physical cleaning and maintenance program. You will also establish and maintain equipment and device inventories and profiles of PC requirements by vocation and define their hardware lifecycle.
  • Information and Cybersecurity: You will ensure all systems remain secure and up to date at all times, actively contributing to our cybersecurity posture. This includes implementing security best practices, monitoring for threats, and responding to incidents to protect our data and infrastructure.
  • On-Demand & Emergency Support: You will provide essential on-demand support, which may require off-hours and/or weekend on-call availability for emergencies.
  • Reporting: You will establish deliverable deadlines and milestones, providing company management with periodic (bi-weekly) progress reports
  • Facility and Telephony Support:  You will regularly check and ensure the maintenance of our telephone switch and equipment, mobile devices, and plant fixtures such as lighting and HVAC systems.
  • On Demand Support: You will be required to provide on call/ondemand support within and outside of business hours, as/when required, for the upkeep of the company’s and its clients mission-critical applications.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma, degree or experience equivalent, preferably in Information Technology, Systems Administration, or related field.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • A minimum of 3 years of working experience in a similar IT Network and System Administrator role, a SecOps role, or a related discipline.
  • Strong practical experience with servers, databases, and a variety of software applications.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to information and cybersecurity best practices.

  • The ability to contribute and provide development and DevOps support, CI/CD pipelines. Test Automation would be an added advantage.
  • Proven ability to manage and communicate effectively with third-party software providers and technology vendors.
  • Exceptional and proactive problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
  • A highly organized and efficient approach to managing complex IT environments.

  • Must be willing to locate within a close radius of, and work from headquarters in Brockville, Ontario Canada
